Project Description

Bagmati Irrigation Project is one of the large irrigation projects implemented in Terai ecological region of Nepal. It aims to provide irrigation facilities to 122000 hectares in conjunction with generation of 140 MW hydropower through the construction of 117-meter high dam. Due to complexity and resources constraints, the project is being implemented in various phases. In first phase (stage I), the infrastructure construction is being done for 37000 hectares through a diversion barrage across Bagmati River. In addition, the command area development work (CAD) is also being implemented to cover the command area of 30,000 hectares with the financial support of Saudi Fun for Development (SFD), which is expected to be completed by the end of June 2006. Total Project Cost US$ 108 million.

Assignment Description

The Consulting services for Bagmati Irrigation Project, the following work area: • Topographic Survey for 7500 hectares for command area development • Canal Alignment Survey including Irrigation and Drainage for 7500 ha • Preparation of topographic maps in 1:1000 hectares showing irrigation and drainage network • Preparation of Irrigation and Drainage Planning for 7500 ha in conjunction with the review and improvement works of previously accomplished CAD work for 23000 ha • Preparation of Design, Drawings, and Cost Estimation of canal, canal structures and drainage works for Command Area Development Works • Preparation of Project Operation Plan including canal operation plan, canal maintenance plan, operation procedures of barrage and specific structures, and overall system management under participatory joint management mode • Preparation and updating of Parcellary Maps of 30000 hectares in order to facilitate the irrigation management • Conduction of Project Benefit Monitoring Evaluation Studies including socio-economic, agricultural and other surveys • River training works design and construction supervision • Overall project management • Institutional Development • Construction Supervision and Quality Control of Construction Activities • Establishment and operation of Laboratories for testing of construction materials and quality of construction works • Updating of documentation of project related documents including maps, reports, and other records • Preparation of Project Completion Report • Assist the project management for contract management as well as water management related activities
