KISAN II, one of the flagship activities under Feed the Future in Nepal, was awarded to Winrock International in July 2017. KISAN II will contribute to the Government of Nepal (GON)’s Agricultural Development Strategy (ADS) and the US Government’s Feed the Future Initiative. This five year, $ 32.7 million project will facilitate systemic changes in the agricultural sector including: (1) greater climate-smart intensification of staple crops and diversification into higher value commodities; (2) strengthening of local market systems to support more competitive and resilient value chains and agricultural related businesses; and (3) improving the enabling environment for agricultural and market systems development. The project will coordinate closely with the private sector and the GON’s Ministry of Agricultural Development (MOAD).The overall objective of this study is to collect baseline data through beneficiary based survey on the effectiveness and reach of KISAN II projects and evaluation indicators so that the collected data can be analyzed and consolidated into a report for use by KISAN II contractor, other FTF implementing partners (IPs), Government of Nepal (GON), and U.S. Government (USG) agencies.
KISAN II aims to improve the productivity of high value vegetables and cropping systems such as lentils, maize, vegetables and rice, as well as goat. KISAN II is targeting 200,000 households in the 25 districts in the Central, West, Mid-West and Far-West regions defined as the Feed the Future Zone of Influence (ZOI).
The sample size was selected to capture a meaningful change for the three Feed the Future indicators for farm level changes in:
• Value of annual sales
• Number of hectares under improved technologies or management practices
• Number of individuals who have applied improved technologies or management practices
