Dunduwa Irrigation System (DIS) is proposed to be a part of the Sikta Irrigation Project (SIP). It is the largest subsystem of the SIP catered by Dunduwa Branch Canal (hereafter called “Dunduwa Canal”) taking off at left side of Sikta Main Canal (SMC) at Stn 36+420 km. A total of 15.5 cumecs discharge will be diverted to Dunduwa Canal from SMC through a link canal. The link canal of length 1,700 meters is proposed to take off from SMC at this location on the left side and drop into Dunduwa Canal at stn 3+000 km from left side. The combined design discharge of Dunduwa canal after the link structure will be 18.5 cumecs. In the proposed development of DIS, the canal system is envisaged to be extended through rehabilitation and expansion of the existing canal networks covering the command area of approximately 16,000 hectares.
