Tourism for Rural Poverty Alleviation Programme (TRPAP) is a programme of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal (HMG/N) and being implemented with technical and financial assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Department of International Development (DFID) Nepal and the Netherlands Development Organization SNV-Nepal. This programme has been implemented in seven districts of Nepal as a model programme. These programme districts are Rupandehi, Chitwan, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Dolpa, Taplejung and Solukhumbu with an aim – to contribute to the poverty alleviation objective of the government through review and formulation of policy and strategic planning for sustainable tourism development that are pro-poor, pro-environment, pro-rural communities and pro-women. The programme is based on a “participatory bottom-up” approach, which helps to empower the local community, specially the women and the disadvantaged, to be able to develop and manage tourism in a sustainable manner for their own benefit.
The programme carries with it the following three inter-related immediate objectives.

• Develop institutional mechanisms for the sustenance of tourism development in Nepal and
• Support the government to review and formulate sustainable tourism development policies and strategies and integrate them with wider conservation objectives.
