Detail Planning and Engineering Design of Branch Canals and Associated Command Area Development Downstream of Ch. 35+000 Km of Sikta IP

Project Description

The Project is being developed to provide irrigation water to the command areas of about 33,766 ha on its right bank and 9,000 ha on the left bank in Banke district (Terai area). A barrage cum road bridge of 317 m in length has been constructed to divert 62.5 m3/s water (Sikta Right Main Canal) for the right side command area and 14.7 m3/s water (Sikta Left Main Canal) for the left side command area. The left side canal system has also integrated two existing FMIS schemes, namely Rajkulo and Fettehpur, in its planned irrigation area (9,000 ha).

This study covers the detailed planning and engineering design of five branch canals and associated command area development works of 14,406 ha land on the right side command area (Terai area) of the Project.

Assignment Description

Carried out Benchmark survey for ground control points survey (using DGPS) in the command area • Carried out detailed topographic survey (using DGPS and Total Station) and preparation/update of topographic maps, with 0.25 m contour interval using DEM derived from LiDAR data, for the command area of 14,406 ha. • Carried out layout and overall planning of the branch canals, sub-branch canals, tertiary canals and watercourses for the command area development • Carried out engineering survey of L-sections, X-sections of canal networks and details of existing drains and local depressions • Carried out necessary geological investigations along the canals and command area • Carried out detail engineering design (hydraulic and structural) and preparation of design drawings, and quantity and cost estimates (Bill of Quantities) of the canal network and associated structures • Carried out planning and design of command area protection and river training works • Prepared project cost estimates for the following development phases (Ex. Rate: 1 US$ = NPR 104.00): • CAD Phase I Works = NPR 2,036,453,000.00 (equivalent to US$ 19.5 million) • CAD Phase II Works = NPR 3,672,593,000.00 (equivalent to US$ 35.3 million) • Prepared bid document and specifications for the procurement of works for ICB and NCB for the civil works based on the standard document of FIDIC and the GoN's PPMO. • Prepared the Detailed Project Report
