Detail Survey and Design of Electrified Railway Line Bardibas – Inaruwa Sector of Mechi – Mahakali Electrified Railway Line (139.40 Km)

Project Description

In pursuance of the Government’s objective of development of railway as an alternative mode of transport in Nepal, Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Department of Railways, has decided to carry out detail survey and design of the Bardibas- Inaruwa section of proposed Mechi- Mahakali railway line with design speed passenger train 250 km/hr and Freight train 120 km/hr. The proposed new railway line normally runs parallel to the East – West Highway. The railway alignments proposed for detail design in this study is approximately 139.40 kilometres, 61 numbers of bridges IPC I Girder and PSC I Girder [16.065 km including Saptakoshi Bridge (8.12 Km)], 439 Box Culverts, Architectural Design of 14 Stations, station buildings, station platforms, office & service buildings, residential quarters, sheds & workshops, 148 RUB’s, Soil Investigation 416 Holes (8436 m), river crossing, and WBC 291 nos. are required in this section and conduct social impact assessment and Environment Impact Assessment (EIA). Total Project Cost NRs. 116.194 Billion.

Assignment Description

The services provided in Detail Survey and Design of Electrified Railway Line Bardibas- Inaruwa Section of Mechi- Mahakali Railway (139.40 Km) were: Review of the Feasibility Study, Detail Engineering Survey and Investigation: Topographic, survey, land use survey, geotechnical and material surveys, Investigation, Hydrological Survey, River Training work, Detail Design of Civil Structures, Architectural Design of 14 Stations, station buildings, station platforms, office & service buildings, residential quarters, sheds & workshops, carryout design and drawings for electric and traction including station lighting system, train control, identify and recommend a suitable technology for ticketing based on the ridership envisaged for the Project, prepare Project Implementation and Operation Schedule, which shall include the Operation cost, maintenance frequency, operation timetable, plans to reduce mean time to restore the inventory, etc., conduct social impact assessment, Environment Impact Assessment, prepare detail technical specification for each work item taking into account relevant international specification and practices, prepare analysis of rates for each work item and detailed cost estimate of various components and prepare cost estimate of the project, prepare appropriate contract packaging, Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and tender documents based on detail engineering design, drawing and specifications. Detailed engineering survey, investigation and design including Topographic survey (Total length along the selected alignment = 139.40 Km, Approach road = 2.40 Km), alignment and land use surveys, Soil, geotechnical investigation and material surveys (total drilling depth=8436 m, maximum drilling hole depth = 40m, total boreholes = 416) (cost of drilling = NRs. 56,398,800) including field and lab tests.
