In pursuance of the Government’s objective of development of railway as an alternative mode of transport in Nepal, Ministry of Physical Planning and Works has decided to carry out Detail Survey and Design of Simara- Bardibas section of Mechi-Mahakali Railway and the Simara–Birgunj Link. The proposed railway line normally runs parallel to the East – West Highway. In the first stage GoN has decided to carry out detail design of the Simara-Bardibas section (102 kilometers) of the proposed railway line with design speed 160 km/hr. Simara and Bardibas are small towns in Tribhuwan Rajmarg and Mahendra Rajmarg respectively are situated at km. 585 and km. 687 of the of the proposed Mechi –Mahakali rail alignment. The proposed Simara-Birgunj link railway is intended to link the Simara- Bardibas Section of Mechi- Mahakali Railway to Birgunj one of the most important business town of Nepal and provide a connection to the existing Raxaul- Birgunj railway line. The Raxaul –Birgung rail line connects ICD located at Birgunj to Raxaul station at India. The alignment starts at Simara and passes through Jitpur and Lalparsa to reach Birgunj. The railway alignments proposed for detail design in this study is 136.4 kilometres, 39.53 km approach road, Architectural Design of 2 junctions stations, 1 terminal stations, 15 stations, station buildings, station platforms, office & service buildings, residential quarters, sheds & workshops, 26 numbers of major bridges (4,530 m), [Name of Bridge and Span: (i) Simara River- Length =70 m, (ii) Bakaiya River-Length = 805 m, (iii) Amo River-length= 70 m, (iv) Chandi River-Length = 315m, (v) Bagmati River- Length = 735, (vi) Lakhandai- Length = 280m, (vii) Banke River-Length= 105m, (viii) Soni River-Length = 70m, (ix)Bhabsi river –Length =105m ); (Name of the bridges with Span Length of 25m (x) Bauni River –Length=50m, (xi) Ddhara River- Length = 100m, (xii) Bijaura River- Length=50m, (xiii) Balganga River-Length=100m, (xiv) Pasha River-Length=200m, (xv) Kat River- Length=50m, (xvi) Lamaha River- Length=325m, (xvii)Satihari River-Length=50m, (xviii) Paurai River- Length=50m, (xix) Kalinjor River-Length=225m, (xx) Phuljor River-Length=275m, (xxi) Dulan River-Length=50m, (xxii) Maraha River-Length=200m, (xxiii) Barbe River-Length= 50m, (xxiv) Jangaha River-Length=150m, (xxv) Bardibas river1-Length=25m, (xxvi) Bardibas river2-Length=25m)] 34 TUB, 82 level crossing and Soil Investigation 374 Holes (5453 m).
