In pursuance of the Government’s objective of development of railway as an alternative mode of transport in Nepal, Ministry of Physical Planning and Works, Department of Railways, has decided to carry out detail survey and design of the Tamsaria-Butwal Section of the proposed Mechi-Mahakali railway line and Butwal-Bhairahawa(Lumbini) Link with design speed 160 km/hr. The proposed new railway line normally runs parallel to the East-West Highway. Tamsaria and Butawal are major nodal points of proposed Mechi-Mahakali Railway Line. The railway alignments proposed for detail design in this study is 107.8 kilometres, 37.80 km approach road, Architectural Design of 13 stations, station buildings, station platforms, office & service buildings, residential quarters, sheds & workshops, design of tunnel (Length 5.260 km) with 8.1 m tunnel dia.,18 numbers of major bridges (2,315m), ) [Bridge Name and Span: (i) Butwal Road Crossing Bridge (length 70 m), (ii) Rohini River Bridge (length 75 m), (iii) Bhaluhi River Bridge (length 125 m), (iv) Saran River Bridge (length 125 m) (v) Khahare River Bridge (length 75 m), (vi) Turiya River Bridge (length 75 m), (vii) Pusaha River Bridge (length 75 m), (viii) Bhumahi River Bridge (length 150 m), (ix) Bhaluhi River Bridge (length 75 m span), (x) Binay River Bridge (length 350 m), (xi) Thulo Khahare Khola Bridge (length 200 m), (xii) Arun River Bridge (length 200 m), (xiii) Gajara River Bridge (length 125 m), (xiv) Gadar River Bridge (length 200 m), (xv) Ulti River Bridge (length 50 m), (xvi) Thutipipal Road Crossing Bridge (length 70 m), (xvii) Tinau River Bridge (length 150 m), and (xviii) Dano River Bridge (length 100 m)] 15 RUB’s, 2 ROB’s,17 level crossing, Soil Investigation 278 Holes (4195 m) and 5.260 km tunnel (1 no.) with 8.1 m tunnel dia. are required in this section. Total Project Cost NRs. 70,983 million.
