Project Description

Trishuli Highway is one of the time immemorial north-south corridors of Nepal linking Kathmandu, the Capital City of Nepal with the Chinese Border at Kerung. Road Improvement and Development Project (RIDP) intends for upgradation/improvement works of this highway from Ranipauwa to Trishuli (Pipaltar) (total length 33.68 km).The proposed widening of Ranipauwa-Trishuli (Pipaltar) road can provide better transportation facilities to the road users, enhance the socio-economic activity of the influence area and generate employment opportunities. The upgrading work will render economic benefits in terms of savings in vehicle operating costs, time savings for passengers and goods in transit, and savings in road maintenance costs. The alignment passes through Ranipauwa, Patle, Jurethum, Lauke, Barahi, Pakhure, Tigaun, Amare, Chisapani, Anpchaur, Tandi Bridge and Pipaltar. The road spans along hilly/mountainous terrains of Nuwakot district. The climatic condition of the project area is sub-tropical. The overall objective of the Consultancy Services is to conduct detail engineering studies, design, drawings and report preparation for widening and upgrading of the existing Ranipauwa-Trishuli (Pipaltar) road stretch ((total length 33.68 km)) to double lane configuration in order to support execution of construction works and carry out detailed survey of the stated road; Prepare detailed inventory of remaining and completed works; Prepare detailed project report; Develop project implementation plan. The Total Project Cost is NRs. 1,496 million.

Assignment Description

Review existing reports, standards, specification and maps relevant to the study • Perform thorough reconnaissance of the project area to identify possible improvements • Consult with concerned Division Road Offices, Balaju-Trishuli, Chhahare-Bidur Road Project Office, and other concerned offices for information and data collection • Conduct detailed topographic survey of road corridor using reliable technology and prepare topographic maps in 1:1000 scale • Detail Engineering survey, Design of the alignment and corridor. • Carry out hydrological and meteorological studies to assess the catchment areas and hydraulic parameters for all existing and proposed cross drainage structures • Investigate site geology to determine the nature/properties of existing strata in the road corridor and slope stability/ landslide study and analysis of the existing issues. • Identify sources of construction materials of appropriate quality and determine the quantities of material permitted to be taken from different source • Prepare inventory of remaining and completed works including condition of road, side-drainage, cross-drainage, retaining/protection and other structures • Prepare detailed design of road, its x-sections, horizontal and vertical alignment, pavement, slope/embankment, retaining/protection structures and drainage provisions • Conduct pavement investigation works for pavement design works. • Conduct environmental and social study and prepare the respective report • Wherever required on technical aspects, recommend for improvement on alignment. • Prepare Detail survey and design reports with detail working drawings in AutoCAD. • Prepare bill of quantities, cost estimates, engineering drawings and detailed project report • Prepare bid documents for execution of civil works. • Prepare Detail Project Report (DPR) for complete road stretch of Ranipauwa to Trishuli (Pipaltar) (total length 33.68 km).
