Project Description

The targeted irrigation area of BBDP is located in Bardiya and Banke districts of Mid Western Development Region (MWDR). The proposed command area is about 60,502 ha, which comprises four parts.
Part I : About 19,000 ha of the land lying on the left bank of Babai River (Eastern Canal Discharge Capacity 28.5 m3/s)
Part II : About 21,000 ;ha of area lying on the right bank of Babai River, (Western Canal Discharge Capacity 21.0 m3/s)
Part III: About 6,000 ha of land lying on the north of Part I area planed to be irrigated from BBDP. Part IV: About 34,500 ha of land in Banke district planned to be irrigated by Sikta Irrigation Project. (Northern Canal Discharge Capacity 15.0 m3/s)
The objective of this study is to:
• Plan a system of canals that would provide year round irrigation to about 60,502 ha of agriculture land in Banke and Bardia districts so as to enable optimization of water diversion from Bheri to Babai and the resulting power generation.
Carry out field survey and detailed engineering design of the irrigation system to a level sufficient to implement the optimized option of Bheri-Babai diversion project (BBDP). Total Project Cost NRs; 11,039,097,248

Assignment Description

The Consulting services for Bheri Babai Diversion Project, the following work area: PART A: IRRIGATION • Document review • Prepare inventory of existing irrigation systems within the Project Area • Collect socio-economic and agricultural data from secondary sources as well as from the field through PRA/RRA tools including data/information on environment • Construction materials survey, collection of geological data from secondary sources as well as field, and investigation works • Assessment and propose project copping pattern, Agriculture Planning • Calculate irrigation water requirement; volumetric assessment of water requirement for Sikta Irrigation Project (SIP) • Prepare Irrigation and Internal Drainage System Plan for Babai Irrigation Project (BIP) including water augmentation of SIP • Review of construction activities of BIP • Detail Engineering Survey Works of BBDP; Detail Command Area Survey; Command area planning • Optimization, Detail Design of Canal and Drainage Structures and Recommendation of Drainage Development Work • Preparation of detailed drawings and maps • Construction planning/Implementation Plan • Project Cost Estimate including Financial and Economic Analysis • Preparation of Reports PART B: LIDAR SURVEY • LiDAR data acquisition from Helicopter of 1100 sq.km (110,000 ha.) of area in Banke and Bardiya District under Bheri Babai Diversion Project including Sikta Irrigation Project • Aerial photography from Medium frame camera and related field work; • Orthophoto processing • Digitalization of topographic features from orthophoto map in the scale of 1:5000 in the GIS platform with layers like; • Preparation of base map containing topographic features, land cover, hydrography, buildings, road, contour (0.25 m interval), DEM and spot height, administrative boundaries and names etc. Apart from it the Consultant also carried out works regarding preparation of Specification and Contract Document for TBM
