Detailed Engineering Design Works of Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation Project

Project Description

The main objective of this service is to carryout the detailed engineering design of an integrated irrigation system combining the existing three major farmer managed irrigation schemes (in Terai area) to be served by single permanent intake (headworks) structure. The project plans to develop a total net command area of 20,305 ha in the eastern part of the district with the active participation of the farmers and WUAs by adopting participatory approach. The estimated cost of system development is about NPR 8.1 billion (USD 113 million)

Assignment Description

Detailed engineering survey of headworks area, immediately downstream of the Karnali River bridge, main canal and new branch canal, and locations of major structures • Carried out geological and geo-technical investigations of headworks and major structure sites along the main canal (Investigation Cost: NRs. 1,000,000) • Performed hydrological analysis of the Karnali river at the intake site for headworks design and river protection works • Performed sediment analysis for design of intake (headworks) structure and desilting basin • Layout and planning of the intake (headworks) structure and other project structures • Carried out planning and detailed engineering design of the following project components: • Intake (headworks) structure and desilting basin on the right bank of the Karnali river (100m3/s design discharge) • Main/feeder canal (total 5.8 km long with 100m3/s design discharge capacity) including 0.816 km long desilting basin at Chainage 4+964 km and 1.56 km long rectangular RC barrel • Main canal (total 14.1 km long with 80m3/s canal capacity) and new branch canal (14.9 km) • Major canal structures and two highway bridges • Flood protection (River training) works on the right bank of the Karnali river • Service (along the main canal and approach roads • Pre-feasibility study of additional command area of about 20,000 ha between the Pathariya and the Kandara rivers • Prepared quantity and cost estimates for project financing that consisted the following civil works packages (ICB contracts) (Exchange rate: 1USD = NPR 71.60): • Package-I (from Ch. 0+000 km to Ch. 0+200 km) that consisted intake, covered canal and river protection works = NPR 1,710,520,815.00 • Package-II (from Ch. 0+200 km to Ch. 8+875 km) = NPR 4,672,099,026.00 • Package-III (from Ch.8+875 km to Ch. 19+875 km) = NPR 458,940,491.00 • Package-IV (from Ch. 0+000 km to Ch. 14+640 km) that consisted new branch canal and extension area = NPR 1,292,455,671.00 • Preparation of the Detailed Design Report
