Project Description

Nepal Purwadhar Bikash Company Ltd. (NPBCL), a national infrastructure developer is in the process to construct a high speed four lane highway through People Public Private Partnership (4Ps) arrangement and with Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOT/ BOOT) concept. The development plan of Katmandu – Kulekani – Hetauda Tunnel (KKHT) Highway has been initiated in the context of much talked about and most desired short cut route out of the valley. This highway will play a very important role as it connects entire western followed by southern and eastern parts of Nepal through mid-zone of Nepal (Hetauda) and will significantly boost overall economic growth of the corridor, region and the whole country.
The Detailed Engineering Survey, Investigation and Detailed Design consisted of total road length of 57.4 Km (Four Lane Expressway with Asphalt Concrete Pavement) with 26 bridges of a total length of around 3,290 m. The Highway also consisted of three tunnels with aggregate length of 4,000m. The design speed of the highway is 80 Kmph in plain to rolling area 80-60 Kmph in rolling to hilly/mountain area. Geotechnical Investigation: No. of borehole for Bridge Investigation 34 Bore Holes, total cumulative depth of Bore Holes=694m; No. of borehole for Tunnel Investigation 6 Bore Holes, total cumulative depth of Bore Holes=370m. Total Project Cost is NRs. 50.14 billion.

Assignment Description

The main objective of the present services is to prepare Detailed Engineering Survey, Investigation and Detailed Design Report (DED) of Kathmandu - Kulekhani - Hetauda Tunnel Highway • Highway Engineering • Review of feasibility study report from all aspects; • Carryout all necessary detail engineering surveys works including topographical survey, alignment survey; • Carry out geological and geotechnical investigations, and necessary field and laboratory testing, as required along the road alignment; • Carry out detailed hydrological survey, drainage survey and analysis; • Carry out survey and geotechnical investigation in areas of landslide prone areas; • Carry out detailed engineering design for retaining and protection structures, slope stabilization with design of geo grids/ consolidated grouting, earth/rock anchoring and bioengineering works • Carry out detailed engineering design including road geometrics, drainage structures, road pavement works, road safety works and miscellaneous ancillary works; • Prepare construction drawings; • Prepare detailed estimates/ BoQ; • Prepare standard/ specification, bid documents/ contract clauses; • Prepare construction plan; and • Tunnel Engineering Modified Horseshoe profile, Double Lane each way Twin-Tunnels Length of Tunnel=4.00 Km x 2 (Chovar Tunnel: 0.31x 2; Kulekhani Tunnel: 3.5 x 2 Thulotar: 0.19 kn x 2; Bhaise Tunnel (optional): 1.2 km x 2 with 10m dia. • Finalize tunnel inlet and outlet portals; • Review the geotechnical and traffic design constraints in all related aspects; • Design tunnel (New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM)) and support system; • Prepare safety aspects for tunnel construction, operation, and maintenance; • Prepare construction drawings; • Calculate quantities of various associated items; • Prepare cost estimates; and prepare tunnel construction plans. • Geological and Geotechnical surveys and investigation for tunnels, including 2D-ERT,Seismic Hazard Analysis, drilling works including core drilling and other field and lab tests. • Bridge/Structural Engineering • Finalize type of bridges, locations; • Carry out design of bridges ( RCC T-Girder, PSC I-Girder, IPC I-Girder, PSC Box Girder, Concrete Arch Girder, Steel Truss Deck); • Carry out design of river training works, bank protection and bridge protection works • Assess and suggest construction and maintenance techniques for special types of bridges, if any; • Design of major interchanges; • Prepare construction drawings; • Calculate quantities of various items; • Prepare cost estimates of individual bridges; and prepare bridge and other associated structure construction plans [The details of some major bridges are included as: (i) Ram Chandre Vir Khola Bridge (L=60m; span 1*60 m), PCBG; (ii) Kulekhani Khola Bridge-1 (L=50m; span 1*50 m ), PCBG; (iii) Ghorle Bridge (L=40m; span 1*40 m), IPC I GIRDER; (iv) Maiti Bridge (L= 40m; span 1*40 m), IPC I GIRDER ; (v) Lapsi Bridge (L=50m; span 1*50 m ), PCBG; (vi) Khahare Bridge (L=140m; span= 3* (35+70+35) m), Steel Deck Arch; (vii) Hital Bridge (L=150m; span= 3*50 m), PCBG; (viii) Kulekhani-2 Bridge (L= 125m; span=3 (50+50+25) m),RCC T-GIRDER, PCBG; (ix) Kulekhani-3 Bridge (L= 120m; span=3*40 m), IPC I GIRDER; (x) Chisapani Bridge (L= 120m; span=3*40 m), IPC I GIRDER; (xi) Lamo Bridge (L= 130m; span=3 (40+50+40) m), IPC I GIRDER, PCBG; (xii) Rapti Bridge (L= 200m; span=5*40 m), IPC I GIRDER; (xiii) Kulin Bridge (L= 150m; span =3*50 m), PCBG; (xiv) Kholsi-1 Bridge (L=150m;span=3*50 m), PCBG; (xv) Aapachaur Bridge (L=120m; span= 3*40 m), IPC I GIRDER; (xvi) Ghumaune Bridge (L=120; span=3*40 m), IPC I GIRDER; (xvii) Rapti U/S Bridge (L= 170; span=2*25 m, 2*60 m (4 span)), RCC T-GIRDER, PCBG; (xviii) Rapti Before Bhaise Bridge (L=150m; span=3*50 m), PCBG; (xix) Rapti After Bhaise Bridge (L= 270; span= 3*50 m, 2*60 m (5 span)), PCBG; (xx) Kholsi-3 Bridge (L=200m; span=4*50 m), PCBG; (xxi) Rapti u/s KK3PH Bridge (L=200m;span=4*50 m), PCBG; (xxii) Rapti d/s KK3PH Bridge (L=250m;span=5*50 m), PCBG; (xxiii) Nakoli Bridge (L=70;span=1*70 m), ARCH;
