Bagmati Irrigation Project is one of the large irrigation projects implemented in Terai ecological region of Nepal. It aims to provide irrigation facilities to 122000 hectares in conjunction with generation of 140 MW hydropower through the construction of 117 meter high dam. Due to complexity and resources constraints, the project is being implemented in various phases. In first phase (stage I), the infrastructure construction is being done for 37000 hectares through a diversion barrage across Bagmati River. Further, in Stage I phase II of the BIP project Detailed Study of the present possible extension of BIP project from Jhim Khola to Hardi Khola is also being implemented. Irrigated command area from extension of Main Canal 17,400 hectares with discharge capacity of 112.7 m3/s. Total Project Cost NPR 5.28 billion.
