Project Description

Bagmati Irrigation Project (BIP) is located in the western part of Sarlahi district in the Madhesh Province of Nepal. Bagmati Irrigation Project is one of the large-scale irrigation project of Nepal. Master plan of Bagmati Irrigation Project has been carried out in 1967-1972 by UNDP-FAO. The project was planned in two phases to cover 122,000 ha. Phase I was further divided in two stages. Phase I stage I included the construction of barrage and development of 45,600 ha of cultivable land of Sarlahi and Rautahat districts while Phase I stage II included development of 22,400 ha of cultivable land of Bara district.

Assignment Description

The prime scope of the consultant shall be to delineate the targeted command area of BIP extension for both eastern and western systems. After delineation of the gross command area for both eastern and western extension systems, the consultant shall clearly delineate the command area in following categories: • Command area of existing and potential surface irrigation schemes including possible augmentation within the command area, • Command area for standalone groundwater schemes (both shallow and deep well potential area), • Command area for groundwater conjunctive use. • Net command area for BIP extension after augmentation from SMDMP.
