Actual assignment, nature of activities performed and location):
The Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MPPW), Department of Roads (DoR), Planning and Design Branch, Road and Traffic Section has developed study of Intersection Project in Kathmandu Valley, Package-1, for the survey and design of 10 intersections and to do proper traffic management thereby reducing the traffic congestion by providing required facilities to the road users including the pedestrians and minimizing the road traffic accidents.

The recent increase in the vehicular traffic in the Kathmandu Valley necessities the development and management of old roads in such a fashion that they can cater the smooth traffic flow without congestion and accident. Therefore, this project has been established with the aim to solving ever increasing traffic congestions faced by the urban road users in the Kathmandu Valley.

The objective of the consulting service was to conduct a Detailed Engineering Survey of the proposed intersections, prepare Detailed Design and Cost Estimates for the improvement of intersections/junctions.

Assignment Description

Our staff provided the following services: • Review existing reports (if any), mainly alignment study, after care study report, standards and specification; • Prepare the topographical map of the intersections; • Detailed engineering survey of the intersections; • Conduct hydrological studies for cross drainage works and purpose the suitable cross drainage structures; • Choose economically feasible pavement type in the intersection. Design the intersection details with pavement types; • List out the trees, houses and other structures that are to be cleared, grubbed or dismantled during the construction within intersection; • Prepare working drawings, cost estimates with analysis of rates, survey and design report • Explore and recommend sources of basic road construction materials.
