Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport (MoPIT), Department of Roads (DOR) planned to widening, upgrading and new construction of existing road sections of North South Corridor, Dovan (Taplejung Municipality) -Olangchung Gola Road (115 Km) that connects Taplejung to China border. The proposed widening of roads can contribute to economic development of the influence area of the road sections as it provides cross border connectivity in eastern region

Assignment Description

Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) carried out in accordance with the TOR approved by the Ministry of Environment as per requirements of the Environmental Protection Act, 1997, Environmental Protection Rule, 1997 and their amendments accordingly includes and consists of; • Preparation of Scoping and TOR, existing environment (Baseline data), legislative and regulatory considerations, determination of the potential impacts, analysis of alternatives, development of an Environmental Management Plan and mitigation measures, identification of institutional needs to implement environmental impact assessment recommendations, environmental monitoring and auditing. • Collection, examination, review and analysis of existing Reports, Maps and Data. • Evaluation and Identification of existing socio-economic and environmental constraints and issues and finding development constraints and potentials. • Complete walkthrough survey was carried out assessing important and sensitive environmental issues to be considered in the EIA Study. • Field Survey and Investigation for collecting baseline data regarding physical, geological, biological and socio-economic and cultural environment. • Detailed physical, biological (especially forest data) and socio-economic and cultural environmental data were collected including social assessment, acquisition and resettlement. • Household survey Questionnaire, FGD etc. was carried out to document wide range of socio-economic and demographic data of the area. • Data were analyzed, positive and negative impacts identified and predicted, appropriate site-specific mitigation measures developed. • Alternative analysis on different alignments on the detailed assessment on the technical feasibility, economic and environmentally viability • Prepared environment monitoring and management plan for implementation. • Final EIA Report prepared, submitted and approved by MOPE.
