Detailed
Towards achieving the Government’s policy to enhance and strengthen Strategic Road network, Department of Roads (DoR) intends to upgrade the following road to all season Double Lane Bituminous standard. Implementing agency for this project is the Department of Roads (DoR) under the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal.
Major features of project are summarized as below:
• Kohalpur – Surkhet (Bangesimal) Road (Ratna Highway, H012) (80.534 Km)
• Places of Settlements/Markets/ Towns: Deurali and Harre at Bardiya District.
• River Crossings: Man Khola, Babai, Toli Khola, Bheri and 18 major bridges
• Right of Way (RoW): 25m either side of the road (50m)
• Carriageway: Double lane all wether bituminous standard (asphalt concrete), carriage way width varies from 5m-7m. The road section from Duliabit to Baressimal is of 4 lane (Bituminous Asphalt Concrete)
• Formation Width: Intermediate to double lane carriageway with shoulders 0.5-1.0 m on either side.
• Classification: National Highway (H012)
• Engineering Design Works: Class II according to the NRS 2070
• The horizontal geometry of the road before and after Babai and Bheri rivers needs extensive improvements to match with the expected requirements of the upgrading works.
• Some portion of the road passes through Wild Life Reserve Forest
• Long Term Interventions: a) Viaducts: 1) Chainage: 66+760 to 66+8840, Length: 80m, Height: 31m; 2) Chainage: 67+570 to 67+630, Length: 60m, Height: 8m; 2) Tunnel: 3 Km (between Chisapani & Babai Bridge); Approx Cost: NRs. 6 Billions
• Approx Project Cost: NRs. 5940 Millions.
• Butwal – Pokhara Road Section (Siddhartha Highway, H10) (139.061 Km)
• Places of Settlements/Markets/ Towns: Putalibazaar (Syangja District), Waling (Syangja District), Galyang (Syangja district)
• River Crossings: Jhunsa Khola, KaligandakiKhola, Chidiya Khola, Upsa Khola and 37 bridges
• Carriageway: Intermediate lane bituminous road
• Formation Width: Intermediate to double lane all weather bituminous road (asphalt concrete)
• Right of Way (RoW): 25m either side of the road (50m)
• Classification: National Highway (H010)
• Engineering Design Works: Class II according to the NRs. 2070
• The area near Siddhababa temple is vulnerable to landslides and rockfall, hence alternative measures like tunnel and viaduct has been included.
• Long Term Interventions: a) Viaducts: at 38 locations having length varying from 8 m to 92m and height 6m to 20m; total length: 787.6m and ; b) Tunnel: at 5 locations varying from 99m to 227m, Total Length: 7.52m
• The road alignment at Putalibazaar (Syangja district) has very steep bends and doesnot comply to the standard, hence an alternative alignments introduced.
• Numbers of tunnels and viaducts are introduced to improve the road geometry, reduce travel distance and minimize cost.
• Total Project Cost (approx): NRs. 14,200 Millions
