Proposed project is located in the Mechi, Koshi, Janakpur and Mahakali Zone in eastern, central and far-western development region of Nepal.

Assignment Description

The services provided by the Consultant included: • collect information on the current availability of herbs, their traded volume, trade pattern, identify the various players in the trade chain, stakeholders, benefit distribution at various levels • study in detail the current utilization (subsistence as well as commercial), processing, harvesting technology, its weakness, impact on the environment and the resource base, socio-economic impact; suggest improvements for sustainability, quality; higher income generation, higher retention of benefit to the resource area • suggest location and viability of the proposed Herbs Promotion Center, and sub-centres giving justifications and relative advantages of various alternative potential locations and give the order of suitability • identify herbs that can be processed, cultivated, collected under sustainable management • suggest modality of functioning of the centre including linkage with other institutes, manpower, infrastructure • suggest other activities for the Centres • suggest methods of raising revenue and methods for sustainability of the centre • suggest methods of raising local interest (awareness) in herbs utilization activity, sustainability of the resources and environmental and socio-economic impact of this sector • suggest the facilities and infrastructure of the Herbal Centres • suggest the project cost for establishing and operating the Herbal Centres in terms of capital and operational cost
