KTFT Project is one of the long awaited national pride projects of Nepal which is an expressway of Asian Highway Class I standards. The 72.5 km speedway will link Khokana of Lalitpur Metropolitan City and Nijghad of Bara district reducing the physical distance between Hills and the Terai. With the expansion of industrial/trade corridors, the Project will facilitate economical import and export of goods. According to DPR (2019), the road width is 25 meters in the hilly region and 27 in the plain regions. Of the total length, 3.9 km of the fast track will lie in Kathmandu district, 6.9 km in Lalitpur, 55.7 km in Makawanpur and 6 km in Bara. The Expressway will also include three tunnels-one in Mahadevtar (3.355 km), Dhedre Danda (1.630 km) and Len Danda (1.430km) of Makawanpur district. There will be 87 small and big bridges along the fast track as mentioned in the DPR. Currently, the GoN has mandated Nepali Army to act as the executing agency for the survey, design, and construction of this expressway. Prior to the decision, pilot track was initially developed by Nepali Army in 2069 BS. Nepal Army has committed to complete the project efficiently by 2024 without compromising quality or entailing delays. Supervision and Design Consultant have been contracted and around 88 percent of the cutting and filling of 55.5 km road section out of the total 72.5 km long fast track has been achieved so far.
The main objective of the assignment is to carry out preliminary geotechnical and geophysical investigations of slopes and road structures at proposed locations to provide surface and sub-surface conditions of proposed slope and road structures sites, material investigation and environmental investigation throughout the road stretch of (Ch. 00+000Km. to Ch. 26+350Km.)
