Agricultural Development Projects, Janakpur was started as Janakpur Zone Agricultural Development Project (JADP). Its preliminary work was started in 1971 with the joint effort of His Majesty’s Government of Nepal and Government of Japan. In 1974 an agreement was held between Nepalese Government and Japanese Government to operate JADP for next five years. The agreement was renewed for three years and two years in 1979 and 1982. The main objective of the project was to enhance cropping intensity and agricultural productivity in its command area through improved agricultural practices along with development of ground water irrigation system

Assignment Description

assess the impact of deep tube-well irrigation system on cropping pattern, cropping intensity, productivity, use of inputs, and use of agricultural machinery and equipment in the command area. • assess the overall change in living status of the farming community in the command area (25260 ha). • Evaluation of degree of annual operation and use of tube-well and its water. • Evaluation of management, operation and maintenance of tube-well water. • Examine the nature and causes of existing problems in the operations of tube-well and water distribution with regards to sustainability, social, managerial, financial, and technical aspect. • Carry out the Social Impact Assessment in the command area after the launching of the programme • Carry out the socio-economic impact assessment through FGD, household survey and with key personnel • Study the adoption rate of improved seeds and technology. • Comparative study of cropping pattern, cropping intensity and productivity with and without tube-well. • Examine available support services from agriculture-related public and private agencies in command area. • Evaluate the functional and operational status of tube-well water user's committee and its existing problem in operation and management. • Field observation to assess various development activities created by introduction of this irrigation system. • Recommendation to the project about future course of action
