Initial Environment Examination of Bhedetar – Aahale – Barachettra Road

Project Description

The road is located in Dhankuta District of Koshi Zone in Eastern Development Region. Bhedetar – Aahale – Baraha Chhetra Road originates from Bhedetar (260 51′ N, 870 19′ E) of the Koshi Highway (Dharan – Dhankuta Road) and passes through Mahabharat and Aahale Village Development Committee (VDC) (260 52′ N, 870 14′ E) of Dhankuta District and ends at Baraha Chettra (260 52′ N, 870 10′ E) of Sunsari District. The road passes through north and south flank of the ridge starting from Bhedetar. The total length is about 28.5 km. The proposed standard of road is District Road, single lane of 3.5 m, formation width of 5 m with earthen pavement at initial stage and will be graveled later.
The expected traffic will be around 25 vehicles per day. On completion, this road is expected to be continuation of Ranke – Raja Rani – Bhedetar road extending to Baraha Chhetra.

Assignment Description

find out the positive or negative impacts on various environmental resources due to natural phenomenon and road-induced human activities during and after construction road project • identify and recommend measures for minimizing environmental impacts from proposed construction by employing principles of avoidance, mitigation, and controls • identify and scope the major issues that may result due to proposed works on the natural, physical and socio-economic and cultural and religious environment of the project area. • Socio-economic survey through FGD and Household survey • recommend whether the proposed road should go for full Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or the Initial Environmental Examination is just sufficient to address the environmental issues that may result due to proposed works on this road and its environment.
