Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) of Dharan-Chatara-Gaighat-Udayapur-Sindhuli-Hetauda (DCGUSH) Road Project at following 4 sections: • Phurkechaur – Sindhuli (119.66 Km) • Bhiman-Katari-Nepaltar (76.90 Km) • Nepaltar-Murkuche-Gaighat – Beltar (53.25 Km) • Beltar-Chatara-Dharan (50.164 Km)

Project Description

The proposed Dharan-Chatara-Gaighat-Udayapur-Sindhuli-Hetauda (DCGUSH) Road links Sunsari, Udayapur, Sindhuli and Makawanpur Districts. The total length of the section is about 317.824 Km. The average formation width of the present road is 7m. In addition to upgrading of the road, the project included culvert widening, shoulder improvements, pedestrian’s walkways, side drainage structures and bus laybys. The improvement and upgrading of this road has been planned to link Hetauda to Dharan in churia region.

Assignment Description

Conducted detail survey and investigation of the present physical, biological and socio-economic condition of the both roads and its corridor. • Analyzed environmental implications / impacts of road widening • Identification of affected peoples with details including compensation and resettlement • Find out the positive or negative impacts on various environmental resources due to natural phenomenon and road-induced human activities during and after construction road project • Identified and recommended measures for minimizing environmental impacts from proposed construction by employing principles of avoidance, mitigation, and controls • Socio-economic survey through FGD and Household survey focusing on socio-environmental aspects • Identified the major issues that may result due to proposed works on the natural, physical and socio-economic and cultural and religious environment of the project area. • Prepared EMAP and responsibility matrix.
