Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) of Embankment and Flood Protection Works in Kamala River (35 km)

Project Description

Department of Water Induced Disaster Prevention (DWIDP) intends to construct river embankment and protection works along the Kamala River from the south of East-West Highway to Indian border (about 35 km) with the grant assistance of Government of India. Different type of river training and flood protection works namely, levees, spurs, revetments, roads, bridges, drainages and sluices have been proposed under this project.

Assignment Description

Carry out an IEE Study of Embankment and Flood Protection Works in Kamala River from East-West Highway to the Indo-Nepal border, as per the Environmental Protection Regulation, 1997 (amended 1999). Specific services provided under the IEE study are: • Approval of ToR from the concerned Ministry • Collection of baseline data on physical, biological, socio-economic and culture resources of the area • Identification of affected peoples with details including compensation • Identify positive and negative impacts due to the project components • Suggest mitigation measures for the adverse impacts • Develop Mitigation Management and Monitoring Plan • Identify the major issues that may result due to proposed works on natural, physical and socio-economic and cultural environment of the project area through different phases of planning, designing, construction and post-construction • Prepare EMAP, Environmental Auditing with responsibility matrix • Prepare IEE Report as per EPR and Environmental Guidelines
