Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) Study of bridges

Project Description

The Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) of the following 5 bridges were conducted to produce a comprehensive and coherent IEE Report as per Environmental Protection Act, 2053 BS and Environmental Protection Rules 2054 BS (amendment 2056 BS).
The Triyuga Khola Bridge (76.84m, 3 span) is a section of Strategic Road Network (SRN) that lies on Dharan-Chatara-Sindhuli road section of Udaypur disdtrict. The Bharauli Khola Bridge (51.20m, 2 span) is a section of Strategic Road Network (SRN) that lies on Dharan-Chatara-Sindhuli road section of Udaypur disdtrict. The Dori Nadi Bridge (30.m, single span) Project is proposed to be constructed across Dori Khola along the Gaur-Pipara-Santpur-Noothar road which is at Rautahat district of Nepal. The Jhanjh bridge (73.70m, 2 span) Project is proposed to be constructed across Jhanjh Nadi along the Gaur-Ganga Pipra-Santapur-Noothar road which is at Rautahat district of Nepal. The Rato Nadi Bridge (207.85m, 4 span) lies at Janakpur-Ramgopalpur-Samshi Road of Mahottari district of Nepal.

Assignment Description

The main objective of the IEE study is to produce a comprehensive and coherent IEE Report as per Environmental Protection Act (EPA 1997) and Environmental Protection Rules (EPR 1997). Other specific objectives covered by the study: • Conducted detailed survey and investigation of the present physical, biological and socioeconomic & cultural baseline conditions of the project area. • Identified beneficial and adverse environmental impacts of the project. • Suggest practical and site specific environmental mitigation and enhancement measures for the adverse impacts of project area. • Identified and recommended measures for minimizing environmental impacts from proposed construction by employing principles of avoidance, mitigation and controls • Identified the major issues that may result due to proposed works on the natural, physical and socio-economic and cultural and religious environment of the project area. • Define the institutional framework required for the execution of monitoring and management programs. • Prepared five separate IEE reports.
