Irrigation Benchmarking in Mahakali Irrigation System (Training)

Project Description

The benchmarking is to generate much needed information, on the basis of which operation and maintenance and the overall management of irrigation systems could be improved.

Irrigation Benchmarking in Mahakali Irrigation System (MIS), Kanchanpur including Orientation/Training to the Mahakali Irrigation System (MIS) and Department of Irrigation (DOI) staff (about 10 nos.) on Irrigation Benchmarking, and establishment of benchmarking indicators, collection & verification of data as demanded b the Benchmarking Toolkit developed by the Bank Netherlands Water Partnership Program (BNWPP)

Assignment Description

Reviewed available reports, maps and information related to the project and Irrigation Benchmarking. In this connection, the consultants studied and reviewed the related documents on Irrigation Benchmarking of similar projects in Nepal and abroad. • Conducted orientation/training program (11 days including involvement in the field & presentation of the results calculated) to the MIS and DOI staffs (about 10 nos.) on Irrigation Benchmarking. • Established benchmarking indicators and collection of data as demanded by the Benchmarking Toolkit developed by the Reforming Irrigation and Drainage Institutions Window of Bank Netherlands Water Partnership Program (BNWPP) for Benchmarking the Mahakali Irrigation System and training the irrigation officials. • Verified the information & data in the site and made discussion with the beneficiary farmers. • Calculated the values of the selected indicators for benchmarking the systems. • Presented the results in the presence of the MIS stair and DOI officials at Mahendranagar. • Compared the irrigation blocks (under study) of MIS with each other & with, at least one already benchmarked system each from Nepal as well as abroad.
