The main objective of this study is to carry out pre-feasibility level study to identify various components of the diversion projects with irrigation and hydropower as the major water users; and as such a decision is made to decide for further study based on it’s economical, financial, and environmental considerations.
The gross command area under irrigation from this is about 16,000 ha (with Net Command Area 10,072 ha) mostly in the southern part of East-West Highway covering 14 VDCs of eastern part of Nawalparasi district namely; Agyauli, Amarapuri, Dibyapuri, Kolhuwa, Kumarwarti, Mukundapur, Narayani, Pithauli, Pragatinagar, Prasauni, Rajahar, Ratanpur, Shiva Mandir, Tamsariya. The canal runs more or less parallel to the East-West highway and cross it at one point. The power generated is 3.6 MW. The length of the main canal is about 65.2 Km and with carrying capacity of 12 cumecs, there are number of cross drainage structure reauired and the alignment is east to west and natural drains flow in north to south direction. Appropriate structure have been provisioned to counter these topographical features. The total project cost is estimate at NRs. 3,011 millions.
