The study area is the Thakani VDC of Sindhupalchowk District. It is accessible by motorable road from Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu to Patibhanjyang, Sindhupalchowk and furthers upto the Thakani Village on foot. Geographically the area is a part of the inner Lasser Himalaya. It fringes from 270 49′ 00′ to 270 53′ 20″ N to 850 27′ 10″ to 850 30′ 40″E. The village is drained to the Northern part of the area by NE flowing Taramarang khola and central part and southern part of the village is the part of the watershed of Shidhu Khola. Thotun danda to the North of the village attains its height to 2407 m and Thulobhanjyang 2056m lies to the central west part of the village near Patibhanjyang. The village exclusively is a mountainous terrain having average slope of 250-300. The terrain consists of crystalline group of rocks and occasionally dissected by several pegmatite veins and dykes. Metamorphic rocks such as Quartzofeldspathic Schist, Quartzite and schists predominate the region.
