Rani Jamara Kulariya Irrigation System is the largest farmers managed irrigation system (FMIS) in Nepal. The system consists three existing FMIS schemes, namely Rani, Jamara and Kulariya branch canals, and the Government of Nepal has planned to integrate these FMISs to be served by single permanent intake (headworks) structure and 8.875 km long main canal. With the construction of the intake structure (100 m3/s diversion capacity) and main canal (80 m3/s canal capacity), the existing canal systems need modernization of their canal systems by constructing necessary canal structures, improvement of the existing branch canals and upgrading of service roads and construction of bridges and culverts in the command area. With the implementation of the proposed modernization of the system, the combined net command area of three FMIS systems will be 14,300 ha (Terai area) land. These works are being carried out by the Government of Nepal with a financing arrangement with the World Bank. The estimated total project cost is about US$ 48 million.
This full detailed study covers the detailed planning, detailed engineering, institutional and socio-economic study of the command area development (14,300 ha net area) below branch canals (Rani, Jamara and Kulariya) up to Field Outlet levels (28 ha block). The Project intends to implement these works under Phase II development.
