The study area falls in Kailali district in the Far-western Development Region of Nepal bordering Nepal and India. The Chaugurdi area is located on the right bank of Karnali River. Geographically, the Chaugardi area is located 28025′ latitude and 81002′ longitude. The area of south of Tikapur town and accessed from East-West Highway and as well from the Dhangadi by fair weather road. Similarly, Karaulia, Hardauna, Singhorahawa, Semari, Itawa and Customs office do fall in the watershed boundary of Banganga river which originates from Siwalik hills. Geographically, the area is located around 27029′ latitude and 82058′.The yearly flood in the Banganga causes the banks of the rivers eroded with increase in the area on yearly basis. Likewise the are of sagars are located in Kapilvastu district of Western Development Region of Nepal bordering Nepal and India. These areas under the study are the part of flat plains of Terai where the problems of flooding and inundation is of major concern to the national government as well as the local government bodies and not to forget the local populace who are at risk yearly.
