Kayar Khola originates from the Chure range and flows in the plains of inner Terai. Geographically, the river section is located at 27º 44′ 19″ to 27º 36′ 07″ latitude and 84º 35′ 23″ to 84º 30′ 57″ longitude. The elevation of the section ranges from around 180m to 320m amsl. The study area under present scope of works falls within a section of Kayar Khola at Milan Bazaar to its confluence with Budi Rapti near Kumaltar, at Ratnanagar Municipality of Chitwan district in the central development region.
The river section has an average slope of 1V: 160H. Chainpur is the adjacent VDC on the left bank of Kayar Khola while Jutpani, Pithuwa and Shaktikhor VDCs lie on the right bank. On the lower reach of the river lies the Ratnanagar Municipality.
Kayar Khola crosses the East West Highway at Belsi at an elevation of 196 m. District road runs along the right bank of river and crosses the highway at Shantichok.
