Preparation of Watershed Management Plan of Morang District

Project Description

The main objective of the intended plan is to assess and analyze the present situations and provide operational guidelines for sustainable uses of natural resources for enhancing environmental conditions and strengthening social linkages of the Churia, Bhabar and Tarai regions for improved livelihoods of the people. The specific objectives are;
• to delineate the boundaries of Churia, Bhabar and Tarai including the watersheds/sub-watersheds within the district;
• to identify biophysical and socioeconomic factors that affects the conditions of the watersheds/sub-watersheds;
• to identify the problems/issues, challenges and opportunities of the Churia, Bhabar and Tarai regions;
• to identify the hydrological characteristics of the sub-watersheds based on the drainage network; and
• to recommend soil conservation and watershed management interventions/strategies suitable.

Assignment Description

Document Review, collection of secondary data/ information • Collect and review existing documents and literatures on the plans, policies and strategic guidelines related to Churia region and documents and information related to the scope of the work for Morang district • Identify and acquire required digital data from survey department and free available satellite imaginary data. • Collection of land, soil, water and forestry related data water resources, bio physical, socio economic, and livelihood aspect and others as per the scope of job. • Preparation of Map • Delineation of political and physiographic boundary, watersheds / sub watersheds and their characteristics, river/stream system identifications, in GIS environment. • Preparation of slope, aspect, elevation, drainage, land use, land cover, land form, soil features, vulnerability map, geo morphological map, administrative map, landslide susceptibility ,wildlife and bio diversity map, hot spots map and other relevant for the job kind. • Prepare maps with major landslides (>30m2),major gullies, degraded land ,vulnerable areas, water bodies, and erosion prone areas and other special events and issues, • Generation of maps with population, population density and other socio-economical themes. • Collection of field level problems and issues on Morang district through field inspection and field work, FGD, PRA/ RRA, Interview, case study, photographs and other tools. • Preparation of data/information on population, settlements, education, migration, agricultural production and practices, energy use, natural resource management, geological features, etc. • Preparation of data/information on flora and fauna, water resources (major MHP, irrigation, water supply), landslide, active and passive zone, land use pattern, issues and challenges, cause and effects of environmental degradation, Sand/boulder extraction scenario and other prevailing issues • Collect information on local and national level efforts for Churia conservation, existing working pattern and coordination mechanism. People’s view, version and suggestions on Churia conservation issues. • Consultation and workshop • Consultation with DSCWM team member, DSCOs and key stakeholder as per requirement • Local/district level workshop, consultation, FGD with line agencies, stakeholders and other relevancies at district headquarters and field level. • Pre workshop preparation (checklist, toolkit, questionnaire, stakeholder identification and selection in close co-ordination with DSCWM team) • Group consultation for data collection and verification at field level • Central level sharing workshop at DSCWM • Preparation of log- frame • Preparation of activity’s action plan with time frame with linkage between Goals, outcomes and targets. • Preparation of log frame in standard form • Preparation of Churia Watershed Management Plan for Morang District • Review of all the collected and generated data related to this plan preparation after field work, different consultation and workshops. • Identification and review with table of content, finding of key issues, problems and their scientific and feasible solutions towards the protection of Churia environment. • Preparation of Final Churia Watershed Management Plan of Morang district.
