Preparation Technical Plan of Bisnumati River Stretch in Kathmandu

Project Description

DWIDP has been taking measures in the disaster stricken areas of along banks of the rivers. The measures however, are limited to remedial ones and the implementation of effective measures has been difficult due to lack of overall flood mitigation plan. Hence, in order to address some part of the planning process; Technical Plan of Bishnumati River in Kathmandu Valley has been proposed.

Assignment Description

Reviewed and assessment of the relevant reports, policies, data, institutions, organizations and project area in brief. • Predicted of high flood discharges of the river using various suitable methods. • Prepared prioritized flood problem maps based on topographic maps of scale 1: 25,000 and study area indicating damages caused by the river and spots prone to river erosion in future. • Carried out layout survey, Cross-section survey and longitudinal survey of the river at three different reaches for the total length of 7 Kin. The intervals of the cross- section shall be 50 in c/c or with additional cross-sections wherever necessary. • Analyzed the cause or riverbank damages/erosions, both natural and human induced. • Investigated flood and sediment disaster stretches, effects, values and losses. • Studied the social and environmental impact of a flood mitigation project and try to quantify the outcome. • Conducted meeting with targeted population in each VDC/Ward located on riverbanks to collect their suggestions, ideas and other issues as many as relevant and should incorporate the outcome in the final report as far as practicable. • Proposed appropriate design/drawings that can form the basis for actual river control measures. • Prepared the Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and cost - estimate on the basis of current district rate and GON/Departmental Norms. • Prepared Inception, Draft and Final Report
