Procedural Guidelines for Planning and Implementation of Water Management Activities

Project Description

The study aims to prepare a procedural guideline for the preparation of Water Management Plan for Integrated Crop Water Management Plan (ICWMP) so that it will be a useful tool for the District Technical Team (DTT). Further, it will bring out number of suggestions for the implementation procedure of prepared Water Management Plan, which is to be prepared and executed in a participatory mode in the field with the involvement of the beneficiary farmers. This is expected to facilitate the DTT to implement their programs smoothly and effectively.

Assignment Description

Literature review on water management practices in irrigation sector • Carried out field works in three irrigation systems (both surface and groundwater) to understand the water management practices and issues • Based on review and filed works assessment of need, importance and procedure of participatory planning for the proper management of available water resources or irrigation purpose • Preparation of canal operation plan; considering water availability and water requirement • Identifying main activities of water management plan formulation (for each season considering prevailing crops and their critical stages of water requirements), • Process for selection of suitable irrigation technology, schedule, and method to ensure optimum efficiency in the given context, • Practical tips for assessing available soil moisture content and judgment of when to irrigate and how much to irrigate, • Process for monitoring and evaluation process (techniques to ensure that the prepared plan is actually implemented). • Prepared inception, field, draft, and final report
