The proposed Groundwater Irrigation Project is situated in Rupandehi District of the Terai area of the Western Development Region. There are two separate places of project implementation in the district where one is located towards the northwest and the other towards the southeast. In the north west there is Surajpura and Rudrapur VDC which is completely surrounded by the first, second and third phases of Bhairahawa Lumbini Ground water Irrigation Project and in the south eastern part in the project is proposed to be implemented covering area under Bhodebar, pajarkatti and chipagad VDC. On the basis of these investigations, deep tube well irrigation system have been planed for NCA of 4500 ha (30 ha. each tubewell; 150 nos. of tubewells) and corresponding costs as well as benefits have been estimated.
The objective of this project is to explore the possibility of groundwater utilization for irrigation to overcome all the shortcoming in the farming practices in the area and to formulate a project document for “Proposal for Groundwater Irrigation Project in potential area of Rupandehi District”.
