In order to achieve the overall goal of the Department of Roads (DoR) “The reduction in road user cost while keeping total road transport cost to a minimum”, the DoR needs to have regular access to update road data and maps such as traffic volume, traffic type, traffic weight, strategic importance as well as the condition of the roads in a compiled databank system and records so as to facilitate the network planning. Hence, DOR under the revised scope of works under Road Maintenance and Development Project (RMDP) as extension of works of Institutional Strengthening Component intended to conduct the proposed study.
Project Objectives:
The project objectives in brief included:
• updating of database on road condition, vehicle axle load and traffic volume.
• updating of road statistics using state of the art technology of GIS for public information through publication
• updating database on road inventory and
• post construction road safety audit of the major highways
