The proposed Road Sector Development Project (P095977) funded by the World Bank, includes upgrading of Surkhet-Kalikot (135 km); Tallo Dungeshwor-Dailekh (28 km); Kalikot-Manma (18 km); Satbanjh-Jhulaghat (37 km); Satbanjh-Gokuleshwor (54 km); Kodpe-Jhota-Chainpur (110 km) road to all season sealed gravel/Otta seal standard.
(i) Surkhet- Kalikot (135 Km) Road: This road is located in the hills of the mid-western region of Nepal in which it starts at Bangesimal in Surkhet valley. The initial section of the road runs through north-west and passes Syaule to the left bank of the Karnali river. It generally has a formation width of 5.5m with gravel surface which is passable throughout the year except in some stretches where landslides are still active. From Km 40 to Km 94, the road is narrower than 4.5 m width and requires widening in most stretches. This road is also proposed to be upgraded to sealed gravel standard (otta seal) by which it will provide transportation facility to a wider influence area of Surkhet and Kalikot districts.
(ii) Tallo Dhungeswor–Dailekh (28 km) Road: The road starts at Lower Dhungeswor and ends at Dailekh, district headquarters of Dailekh district. The alignment initially ascends from lower Dhungesware 3.00 km, then descend 5.7 km, from where the alignment ascend to Siyakot km 7.95. From Siyakot descend 11.50 km, the road gently ascend to Chupra at km 18.0 and after crossing the Lohare Khola, the alignment ascend with steep slope to the end of the road (Otta seal level).
(iii) Kalikot (Tila)–Manma (18 km) Road: The existing earthen track was built by Nepal Army. The alignment crosses Tila River at Sereghat and ascends towards Manma, headquarter of Kalikot district. Road Surface is relatively in poor condition and road geometry has to be improved in several places.
(iv) Satbanjh-Jhulaghat (37 km) Road: The road is classed as Feeder Road (FRN 50) and starts at Satbanjh which is located in hills of the far western region of Nepal near the Indian border. It is a part of the principal access route that links Baitadi district and Gokuleswore town. The condition of the road surface is very poor especially during rainy season. (Otta seal level)
(v) Satbanjh- Gokuleswor (54 Km) Road: The project road is classed partly as National Highway (H14 from Satbanjh to Gokuleswor). The road section from Satbanjh to Gokuleswor is 54 Km. Those road sections are located in the hills of the far western region of Nepal. It is a part of the principal access route Dhangadi-Dadeldhura-Satbanjh that links Baitadi and Gokuleswor (Otta seal level)
(vi) Khodpe-Jhota-Chainpur (110 km) Road: The project road is classed as Feeder Road Standard, starts from Mahakali Highway (H-14) at Khodpe in Baitadi district. It is located in the hills of the far-western region of Nepal and a part of the principal access route (Dhangadi-Dadeldhura-Khodpe-Jhota-Chainpur). The alignment gently goes up from Khodpe up to 25.00 km, then descends to Kalanga Gad river where it crosses and then the alignment runs along the west bank of Seti river. (Otta seal level)
Total Length of the Project: 364 km, Estimated cost of the project: US $ 50.6 million
