Study on Effectiveness of Birthing Centres

Project Description

This study was to assess the effectiveness of birthing centers. It assessed the performance and effectiveness of the birthing centers, behavior of care providers, referral system and back up mechanism, different models of birthing centers, extent of access by general and particularly poor and socially excluded groups etc.

Assignment Description

The study was based on primary and secondary sources. Primary level of information was collected through the survey of birthing centers functioning across the country. Following were the major activities carried out: • Conduct baseline survey of birthing centers • Prepared a baseline data of the facilities available in the birthing centers • Assessed the trends of delivering and services offered to the women • Estimated the average physical distance traveled by the women to attend the service of birthing centers • Measured effectiveness of out reach clinics and their referral cases in birthing centers • Assessed follow up mechanism in different birthing centers • Studied relationship of birthing centers with the hospitals and assessed the level of assistance received by the birthing centers from the hospitals • Reviewed and analyzed the cost paid by the patients to access the services proposed by the birthing center.
