Survey of Availability, Distribution, Use and Management of Drugs, Vaccines and Medical Supplies in Government Health Facilities

The availability, sufficiency and drug distribution in the districts health facilities have always been questioned. To this background, the objective of the study is to conduct a survey of availability, distribution, use and management of drugs, vaccines and medical supplies in Government Health Facilities known as Service Delivery Points such as Primary Health Care Centers, Health Posts and Sub Health Posts, which will serve as a baseline data of stock inventory. The study has investigated the availability and causes of stock-outs of essential drugs and some key program commodities and come up with the recommendations to minimize the stock outs and increase the availability of program commodities and essential drugs at service delivery points.

Assignment Description

Conduct a baseline survey in Health Facilities (Service Delivery Points (SDPs)) like Primary health Care Center, Health Post, and Sub Health post regarding the availability of approximately 20-25 Essential drugs and some key program commodities like Iron Tablets, Cotrimoxazole/ Pediatric, Vitamin A, ORS, Injectable (Depo), Pills, and Condom. • Prepare a baseline data for the stock availability of the essential drugs in the health facilities. • Cross-check consumption data against dispensed data from the OPD register, especially for those drugs, where the stock out has been reported. Any discrepancy must be discussed with Health Facilities and reported. • Check the latest LMIS report prepared by the Health Facilities and any discrepancy in the stock out reporting must be verified and reported. • Report date of arrival for each delivered drug in the district stores; sources (e.g. KfW, MOHP, and other sources). Similarly, Date of arrival for each delivered drug in PHC, HP, SHP; sources (e.g. KfW/MOHP; MOHP, other sources) should be reported. • Specific reasons for the stock outs for each item in the health facilities should be singled out and how to tackle or help solve the stock outs reason should be mentioned. Similarly, Stock out dates and re-supply dates for each drug in PHC, HP, and SHP should be recorded to determine the stock out period of a specific drug. • Once the stock out is found in the health facility, it is required to find out the availability of stock in upper level of the facility (District level, Regional Level, and Central level).
