In recent years, UNICEF is taking the initiative in conducting sustainability check of water supply schemes to identify the causes of unsustainable interventions, solutions of overcome challenges, and capitalize lesson learnt and good practices. In accordance to the status stated above, it is important to conduct the Sustainability Check of the water supply schemes in few selected districts. The concept of sustainability check is relatively new within the UNICEF and evolving gradually. The UNICEF headquarters has been developing a Guidance to Design and Implement Sustainability Monitoring in WASH. UNICEF Nepal has planned to carry out a sustainability check through employing an independent team of professionals in selected water supply schemes in ten districts supported by UNICEF. The Sustainability Check study emphasizes on the importance of interpreting data utilizing information management tools in context to provide a comprehensive picture of a given situation to facilitate effective decision making.
The study is carried out in 40 schemes of ten districts including two earthquake recovery districts.
• 29 Schemes in UNICEF WASH development program districts – Baitadi, Doti Salyan, Parsa, Rautahat, Saptari, Siraha, and Mahottari
• 11 Schemes in UNICEF WASH earthquake recovery districts – Nuwakot and Kavre
