Updating of District Water use Inventory Studies in the Geographic Information System (GIS) Database Platform

Project Description

The objective of the present study was to convert the analogue forms of data into digital format as far as practicable and updating information in doing so by utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) as well as to document this information in the other digital format like spreadsheet where the information can not be spatially linked. The scope of works was limited to eight districts namely; Gulmi, Parbat, Syangja, Tanahu, Lamjung, Kaski, Myagdi and Mustang in Western Development Region, and two districts namely, Dang and Pyuthan in the Mid-western Development Region.

Assignment Description

Major activities carried out under the study included the following: • Convert maps and drawings available in the water use inventory study reports and other reports into a GIS based digital database system for the spatial information • Data collection from the field from different water use agencies like irrigation, hydropower, drinking water etc. • Append the entire attribute tables and features in the existing water use inventory reports with the spatially located respective features. • Incorporation of systems built after the preparation of water use inventory in water use sectors such as hydropower, irrigation and drinking water etc. • Preparation of database tables, GIS maps/themes incorporating all available data and information • Preparation of Inception, Field, Draft and Final Reports including GIS maps, GIS Database.
