USAID’s Knowledge-based Integrated Sustainable Agriculture and Nutrition (KISAN) project coordinates with the private sector and the Ministry of Agricultural Development (MOAD) of Government of Nepal (GoN) to sustainably improve food security and increase incomes through integrated agriculture, nutrition, and sanitation activities. KISAN II aims to improve the productivity of high value vegetables and cropping systems such as rice, lentils, maize, vegetables and goat. KISAN II is targeting 200,000 households in the 23 districts in the Central, West, Mid-West and Far-West regions defined as the Feed the Future Zone of Influence (ZOI).
The five Components, which will integrate specific cross-cutting objectives:
Component 1: Improve the productivity of selected agricultural market systems
Component 2: Strengthen the competitiveness, resilience and inclusiveness of selected agricultural market systems
Component 3: Strengthen the enabling environment of selected agricultural market systems
Component 4: Increase ability of vulnerable communities to act on business opportunities within selected market systems.
Component 5: Apply collaboration, learning, and adaptation to market systems development
The universe for KISAN II farm-level survey for 2021 is set at 144,855 with household characteristics and geo references. In 2021, KISAN II planned to collect household information on 13 farm level indicators using computer aided telephonic interview due to COVID 19 lockdown.
